Feature Spotlight: Knowledge Base Filters

At Lumi, we’re excited to introduce Knowledge Base Filters. KB Filters is a new way to control exactly which rows of data are available during analysis, without modifying your underlying database or creating separate views.

KB Filters allow data teams to enforce access boundaries at the source of analysis, ensuring users can only query the portion of the dataset that has been explicitly approved for them.

What’s New

Deterministic Filtering

KB Filters are applied directly at query execution, not dynamically or based on user context. This guarantees consistent, predictable results every time Lumi queries filtered tables.

Precision Without Schema Changes

Teams can select a field, choose an operator such as equals, greater than, or not equal, and define a specific value to apply as the filter condition. This allows for precise, table-level rules that shape how Lumi retrieves data.  Most critically, without changing the source schema or maintaining filtered views.

Centralized Control

All filters are managed within the Knowledge Base itself, giving data teams a single location to define and enforce access logic. This reduces manual filtering, simplifies governance, and ensures alignment across teams and departments.

Secure by Design, Seamless in Use

When a user asks a question, Lumi automatically applies the filter behind the scenes. The user does not need to reference the rule or remember to apply it. Only the permitted rows are retrieved during analysis. This delivers a secure experience for administrators and a frictionless experience for users.

Why It Matters

KB Filters make it easier for teams to:

  • Control what data is visible for specific users for analysis
  • Maintain consistency across all users and queries
  • Enforce operational context at the knowledge base level
Knowledge Base Filters brings control and simplicity to data insights in Lumi, keeping every analysis focused, governed, and trusted.
